Our vision with current and future remote sensing platforms is to discover oceanic sea surface and even subsurface phenomena. Remote sensing can make that "Seeing is believing!"
What we do!
Ocean has full of curious non-linear processes that we like to ovserve using remote sensing techniques and understand these after all with physical intuitions. We especially focus on three different spatial and time scales of research.
- For very small scale phenomena- we have been developing Low Altitude Remote Sensing Platform based on Helikite (Helium + Kite) and Drone with various sensors. We aim to monitor following physical and ecological properties and events: ultrahigh high spatial resolution of coastal plumes velocity, Chlorophyll concentration, red tide, jellyfish, turbidity, oil spill, disaster, etc.
For meso-scale phenomena- we have been used multiple ocean satellites including optic sensors (GOCI, VIIRS, MODIS, etc), infrared and microwave SST, altimeters, scatterometers, SAR, etc. We especially interested in detecting eddies, fronts, upwelling, regions of low salinity.
For global scale phenomena- we have been conducting research for ocean’s role in climate change based on Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD). From EEMD, we are trying to understand how ocean’s large kinetic energies transfer to the coastal regions.
